Chelsea Striker Sam Kerr Sidelined with ACL Injury: Impact on Club and International Scene

Sam Kerr's ACL injury will impact Chelsea, confirmed during a training camp in Morocco. Chelsea announced her injury, making her one of several top WSL players facing this setback. Chelsea Women's Club stated, "Striker star Sam Kerr has sustained an ACL injury during our training camp." She'll be assessed by a specialist, and her rehabilitation will be managed by Chelsea's medical team.

Out of contract at the end of the season, Kerr joined Chelsea in December 2019. With over 90 goals in 128 matches for the Australian national team, she played a crucial role in the 2023 World Cup despite missing the group stage due to an earlier injury.

Tony Gustavsson, Matildas’ head coach, expressed full support for Kerr, emphasizing her leadership qualities. Her absence could affect Chelsea's Women’s FA Cup fixture, and she might miss the 2024 Olympics, with Australia aiming for qualifiers next month. This scenario parallels Beth Mead's ACL injury in 2022, sidelining her until the following year after a match against Manchester United in the Women’s Super League.
