Filming has started on the highly anticipated Formula 1 movie featuring A-list stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. Produced by Lewis Hamilton and directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for "Top Gun: Maverick," the film aims to deliver an unparalleled level of authenticity to motorsports cinema.
During the British Grand Prix weekend, both actors were seen in full race suits, interacting with drivers before the race. Filming took place at Silverstone between real-life race sessions, with an additional replica garage set up in the paddock for added authenticity. Apple secured the rights to this action-packed racing film for a staggering $125 million, with the remaining filming scheduled for the latter half of the season.
While Brad Pitt was filmed driving the 'Apex' Formula 1 car at Silverstone, it was a replica F2 car created by Mercedes due to FIA Super license requirements.
The film's plot follows a retired veteran racing driver (Brad Pitt) who comes out of retirement to mentor a young driver (Damson Idris) in his final shot at glory.
Reception to the film has been largely positive, with Pitt's involvement and the crew's presence generating excitement around the circuit. However, double world champion Max Verstappen has shown little interest, stating his lack of enthusiasm, while other drivers enjoy the Hollywood extravaganza.
In contrast, Lewis Hamilton described Brad Pitt's presence at the drivers' meeting as the best briefing they've ever had.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali confirmed that the movie serves as another avenue to reach a broader F1 audience, similar to Netflix's "Drive to Survive." He further emphasized the need to maintain control over production while highlighting that it showcases the relentless nature of Formula 1.
Stay tuned for more updates on this immersive production that promises to captivate fans and expand the world of Formula 1.
