Fred VanVleet Inks Record-Breaking $43.3 Million a year Deal with Houston Rockets for 3 Years

In a major move for the Houston Rockets, Fred VanVleet has agreed to a lucrative three-year contract worth a staggering $130 million. This deal will see VanVleet earn an impressive $43.3 million annually, solidifying his position as one of the highest-paid players in the league.

This signing marks the NBA's first max deal of the free agency period, highlighting VanVleet's value and the Rockets' commitment to building a competitive team.

Last season, the 29-year-old guard showcased his exceptional skills on the court, averaging 19.3 points with shooting splits of 39% from the field, 34% from beyond the arc, and an impressive 90% from the free-throw line. In addition to his scoring prowess, VanVleet contributed 7.2 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game, playing an integral role for the Toronto Raptors.

VanVleet's decision to decline a $22.8 million option to remain in Toronto demonstrates his desire for a fresh start. This marks his second time entering unrestricted free agency in his seven-year career, further illustrating his confidence in his abilities and his eagerness for new challenges.

As one of the most accomplished undrafted players in NBA history, VanVleet's journey is truly inspiring. After graduating from Wichita State in 2016, he impressed during training camp with the Raptors and secured a spot on the roster, even splitting his playing time with the franchise's G League affiliate. Notably, his significant contribution during Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals helped the Raptors clinch their first-ever championship.

VanVleet's partnership with Kyle Lowry, a six-time All-Star, proved to be a formidable force during the 2019-20 season. Together, they led the Raptors to an impressive 53 wins and a thrilling Game 7 in the Eastern Conference semifinals, despite the absence of Kawhi Leonard. VanVleet's stellar performance as a show-runner eventually made Lowry expendable in 2021.

Following his outstanding play, VanVleet secured a four-year, $85 million contract from Toronto during the 2020 free agency. His continued growth and impact on the court earned him his first All-Star selection the following year. With impressive averages of 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists, along with his tenacious defense, VanVleet solidified his status as a key player on a top-10 defensive team.

Now, as he embarks on a new chapter with the Houston Rockets, basketball fans eagerly anticipate the dynamic contributions that VanVleet will bring to the team, ensuring an exciting future for both him and the organization.
