LaMelo Ball Secures Historic Five-Year Max Extension with Charlotte Hornets Worth up to $260M

LaMelo all signs as he signs max $240 million contract

Charlotte Hornets' dynamic All-Star guard, LaMelo Ball, has reached a groundbreaking agreement in principle on a five-year designated rookie max extension, potentially worth an astounding $260 million. The news was confirmed by Sam Permut of Roc Nation Sports.

Joining the ranks of Tyrese Haliburton and Desmond Bane, Ball becomes the third player from the 2020 draft class to secure a max extension, solidifying his place among the league's elite talents.

This historic extension marks a significant milestone for the Hornets, as they become one of the last two NBA teams, alongside the Orlando Magic, to offer a contract exceeding $120 million. Ball's potential deal surpasses the previous largest contracts in Hornets history, awarded to Gordon Hayward and Nicolas Batum, both valued at $120 million, making it a monumental investment.

At just 22 years old in August, Ball has already proven himself as one of the league's most versatile players, averaging over 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists per game over the past two seasons. Despite being limited to 36 games last season due to ankle injuries, Ball showcased his scoring prowess, averaging career-highs of 23.3 points and 8.4 assists per game.

With an impressive shooting range, Ball connected on 37.6% of his three-point attempts, attempting 10.6 shots per game. He joined an exclusive group of NBA players who averaged four made three-pointers per game in a season, alongside Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, James Harden, and Klay Thompson.

Having claimed the Rookie of the Year award in 2021, Ball's ability to score and create opportunities for both himself and his teammates sets him apart.

Standing at 6-foot-7, he possesses the skills of a true point guard. Moreover, Ball has already established himself as the franchise leader in triple-doubles, recording an impressive nine in his young career.

The future looks exceptionally bright for LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets, as they embark on this transformative extension.
