Mason Mount, arrived at Carrington on Monday morning for his medical examination before his anticipated move to Manchester United. Mount's older brother, Lewis, was also spotted by photographers in the van accompanying the England international.
Mount's formal announcement as a Manchester United player is expected in the coming days, and there is even a possibility of him making his debut for the club during their match against Leeds in Oslo next week.
United recently reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Mount for an initial fee of £55 million, with an additional £5 million to be paid in add-ons. It has been reported that the add-ons are heavily dependent on the club winning trophies, and sources suggest that United would be content to pay a total of £60 million, as it would signify Mount's contribution to success at Old Trafford.
Once Mount completes his medical examination, he will become Manchester United's first new signing in the current transfer window. The timing of his medical was arranged for Monday morning due to his holiday last week.
Mount, an integral part of the England national team, had one more year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge. However, his desire to join Manchester United led to negotiations between the two clubs. Manchester United, conscious of his contract running out in 2024, were reluctant to overpay for the midfielder.
Interestingly, Erik ten Hag, the manager of Ajax, had also shown interest in Mount. Ten Hag, seeking to add a young midfielder to his squad this summer, had closely followed Mount's progress since his impressive loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem during the 2017/18 season.
There were even discussions regarding a potential loan move to Ajax for Mount in the subsequent season.
With the Mount deal nearing completion, Manchester United will shift their focus towards securing a goalkeeper and a striker, as Ten Hag aims to further strengthen his squad for the upcoming season.
The signing of Mason Mount represents a significant coup for Manchester United, as they acquire a highly talented midfielder who has already showcased his abilities on the domestic and international stage.
Mount's arrival is sure to bolster United's midfield options and contribute to their ambitions of achieving success in the coming seasons.
