Nottingham Forest's Harry Toffolo Charged by FA for Breaching Betting Rules

Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for breaching its betting rules.

Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for breaching its betting rules. It is alleged that Toffolo violated FA regulations, which prohibit players from placing bets or disclosing information that could be used for betting, on 375 occasions between January 22, 2014, and March 18, 2017.

This follows the initial charge against Brentford star striker Ivan Toney, aged 27, in November 2022, which resulted in his exclusion from Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup. However, Toney's ban was reduced from 11 months to eight due to a diagnosed gambling addiction. He will remain ineligible to play until January 17, 2024.

Toffolo, who made 19 appearances in the Premier League has until July 19 to respond to the charge.

According to Rule E8, players are prohibited from betting on matches, soliciting others to place bets on their behalf, or sharing privileged information for gambling purposes. In December 2020, Newcastle's Kieran Trippier, who was then playing for Atlético Madrid, was found guilty of violating this rule and received a 10-week ban from all football-related activities, along with a £70,000 fine.
